An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Respect separation of powers, preserve USAID through proper channels

29 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

As a government agency established by an act of Congress, USAID cannot be unilaterally shut down by the executive branch. Attempting to bypass the legislative process raises serious constitutional concerns about the separation of powers and undermines our democratic system of checks and balances. Instead of circumventing Congress, the proper recourse is to work through the established lawmaking procedures to address any perceived issues with USAID in a transparent and accountable manner. Disregarding the role of the coequal legislative branch sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the foundations of our republic.
