According to a whistleblower complaint filed on August 27, 2025, by the SSA's Chief Data Officer, DOGE uploaded the agency's entire database containing sensitive personal information of over 300 million Americans to an unsecured cloud server. This reckless action exposed Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and immigration statuses to potential identity theft and fraud. SSA claims have reached record volumes while the agency faces severe staffing shortages. The SSA has stopped publicly reporting performance metrics and shifted critical staff away from field offices, making it harder for elderly and disabled Americans to access their benefits. The agency's predominantly elderly and disabled customer base cannot rely solely on online portals for support. I urge you to condemn the workforce cuts, office closures, and service disruptions at the Social Security Administration. Congress must demand adequate SSA staffing, transparent performance data, and accountability for the security breach. Social Security benefits are a lifeline that millions of Americans have earned through decades of work, and they deserve an agency that can efficiently and securely deliver those benefits.
