Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
Just when I think reality might be winning the day, a headline like this appears:
“After AG Bill Barr says no evidence of widespread fraud in 2020 election, 9 Texas Republicans decry "shocking lack of action" on allegations”
“On the same day that U.S. Attorney General William Barr said the Justice Department had found no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, nine Texas Republicans in Congress signed a letter chastising Barr for a "shocking lack of action" in response to unproven allegations that fraud occurred.” [Texas Tribune]
Yet another instance of our state looking like fringe wing-nuts.
But I think I understand the rationale behind propping up this looney tune conspiracy theory. Fear of death threats. We have seen what has happened to members of your party who dare to speak truth to crazy. They attract the wrath of Mr. Trump’s legions. And with the tacit approval of the man himself.
So instead of speaking up, speaking out, giving voice to decency, condemning the crazy seditious talk we’re surrounded by currently, you sign on the dotted line and keep your heads down. Hoping to stay out of the range of fire. Hoping we all forget your cowardice and move on to other shiny objects.
Of course the other side of the coin is that you do indeed agree that the recent election was totally corrupt and fraudulent.
Whichever is your chosen reality, your lack of character (or delusion) makes you unfit for public office. So it’s a good thing my Rep Mr. Conaway is leaving his.
Then there’s this grandstanding from one of my Senators:
“Also on Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, urged the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a Trump challenge to the results in the swing state of Pennsylvania, which President-elect Joe Biden won by more than 80,000 votes.
"I believe the U.S. Supreme Court has a responsibility to the American people to ensure that we are following the law and following the Constitution. Hearing this case — now, on an emergency expedited basis — would be an important step in helping rebuild confidence in the integrity of our democratic system," Cruz said in a statement.” [Texas Tribune]
Oh good grief. What is wrong with you people?
