Oppose Mid-Decade Redistricting in Indiana

I am writing as a concerned constituent from Northwest Indiana to express my firm opposition to any efforts to pursue mid-decade redistricting in the State of Indiana. Redistricting should only take place once per decade—following the U.S. Census—to reflect population shifts accurately and fairly. Any attempt to redraw congressional or legislative maps outside that schedule, particularly for partisan gain, undermines the democratic process, erodes public trust, and weakens representation for communities like mine. As you know, Indiana’s current districts were only recently redrawn in 2021. Revisiting those boundaries now, mid-decade, appears motivated not by demographic necessity but by political calculation. That kind of manipulation threatens the principles of equal representation and accountability that our republic is built upon. In Northwest Indiana, we already face complex challenges around economic development, infrastructure, and public education. We need consistent and fair representation in Indianapolis and Washington—not a system rigged to silence our voices or divide our communities for political advantage. I urge you to reject any attempts to reopen redistricting discussions until the next official Census. Instead, please support efforts that make our democratic processes more transparent, equitable, and responsive to all Hoosiers—not just those in power.
