Support Bipartisan Resolution to Prevent Unauthorized War with Venezuela

I am writing to express my strong support for the bipartisan resolution led by Senator Tim Kaine to force a vote on preventing unilateral war declaration against Venezuela without Congressional approval. This crucial effort upholds the constitutional balance of powers and ensures proper oversight of our military actions.
The recent escalation of U.S. military activities in the Caribbean is deeply concerning. The Trump administration has conducted multiple strikes on alleged drug boats, resulting in at least 27 reported deaths. These actions, coupled with the authorization of CIA operations in Venezuela and considerations of land operations, are being undertaken without sufficient Congressional oversight or approval.
As your constituent, I am alarmed by the lack of transparency surrounding these operations. Senator Kaine aptly described it as a "black hole" of information. The administration has not provided Congress with evidence justifying the boat strikes, raising serious questions about their legality and necessity.
The Constitution explicitly grants Congress the power to declare war. The War Powers Resolution further reinforces this authority. By supporting this bipartisan resolution, you would be upholding these fundamental principles and preventing potential overreach by the executive branch.
A previous vote to limit war powers in the Caribbean narrowly failed 48-51. This new resolution presents an opportunity to garner additional support and assert Congressional authority. The stakes are high – without proper checks, we risk escalating into a full-scale war with Venezuela.
I urge you to vote in favor of this resolution when it comes to the Senate floor after the 10-day waiting period. Your support would demonstrate a commitment to constitutional principles, responsible foreign policy, and the safety of our service members. The American people deserve a thorough debate and a clear vote before any further military escalation in Venezuela or the Caribbean region.
