I write to you today as a concerned citizen, alarmed by recent statements made by Vice President J.D. Vance that directly attack the foundation of our democratic system—specifically his call to end the separation of powers and undermine the role of the judiciary. These remarks are deeply troubling and fundamentally incompatible with the constitutional principles that define and protect our republic.
As you know, our Constitution is not a suggestion—it is the supreme law of the land. The executive branch must respect the checks and balances that safeguard our democracy. No President or Vice President should be allowed to trample these principles with impunity.
I urge you to take the following actions:
1 Publicly condemn the statements made by Vice President Vance and any similar rhetoric from President Trump that challenges the separation of powers or disrespects the judiciary.
2 Withdraw any and all support for the Trump administration based on its ongoing attempts to weaken constitutional governance.
3 Introduce or co-sponsor resolutions in both chambers calling for formal censure of both President Trump and Vice President Vance.
4 Call for the initiation of impeachment proceedings under Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, for any actions that constitute “high crimes and misdemeanors,” including subversion of the Constitution.
5 Support any lawful investigations or legal mechanisms—whether through the Department of Justice, special counsel, or Congressional inquiry—that seek to hold President Trump and Vice President Vance accountable for abuse of power.
If you believe that these attacks on our democracy fall within the legitimate powers of the presidency, then I cannot see how you can honestly fulfill your oath of office.
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter."
Thank you for your continued service and your commitment to the rule of law. I look forward to your response and your leadership in this critical moment.
