A baby named chance was cut out of a corpse in Georgia. that's not me being dramatic that's what happened. Adriana Smith, a thirty one year old nurse and mother, went to north side hospital in early february for a severe headache and what did they do? They gave her some medication and sent her home. No scans, no tests. Hours later she was gasping for air, by the time she had made it to emory healthcare care it was too late: she had suffered multiple blood clots in her brain and doctors declared her brain dead, medically gone no hope of her recovery. But because she was eight weeks pregnant, the state of Georgia said keep her body alive. Why because under the “life act” governor Brian Kemp’s abortion ban written by republican Ed Setzler a fetus has legal personhood once cardiac activity is detected.
so even though adriana is dead, they hooked her up to machines and kept her breathing.
not for her, not for her family, but for the embryo the state decided was more valuable than her life.
her mother, April Newkirk, begged for the right to make decisions, but for four months she sat in a hospital watching machines pump air into her daughter's rotting corpse because doctors were too scared to violate the abortion law. And when Adriana’s body started to shut down, when it could no longer perform even with machines, doctors performed an emergency C-section on a dead woman. They didn't deliver a baby, they removed an infant from a dead body. Chance was born at just twenty one weeks and he weighs one pound thirteen ounces, was rushed to the NICU.
He is fighting for his life and this will be framed by the state as a miracle. But it wasn't. Unfortunately this was a dissection. It was a last minute extraction because Adriana Smith, who they turned into a human incubator, was collapsing. Adriana worked as a nurse, she helped people, she trusted this system
and that same system north side hospital emory healthcare care and the state of Georgia failed her not once but twice. They ignored her symptoms, used her dead body, robbed a son of his mother, and then turned her into a political experiment. This is not pro life, this is desecration. This is what happens when the law puts an embryo over the person carrying it.
So yes please pray for baby chance, but never forget Adriana Smith. Because governor Brian Kemp and his abortion ban didn't save a life, it stole one.
This is a transcript from @Spencewuah, that is extremely well put together. The lawmakers in Georgia need to be called out and shamed for this law and what it has done to Adriana and her family. Im calling on you as my representative, even though you are not in Georgia, to fight against these terrible laws. Because if it can happen there, it can happen anywhere, and it will only get worse. The governor of Georgia should be ashamed, call him out, make him embarrassed for even thinking this was an acceptable outcome.
