Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to support the twin bills of HR 5551/S.2827 in the House and Senate, the Big Wires Act. The intent of these bills is to help push forward grid modernization, so that we may take advantage of a growing need to push for renewable energy. Not only that, but the need to support regions that are having an energy shortfall by helping supply it from unaffected regions is of growing importance to our economy, and potentially lowering costs to consumers and smaller businesses. We must do this. As the bill states, investment in efficient transiting of power supplies has lagged behind other nations who are already deploying new solar, wind, and nuclear fleets into their grids. It also insures that the existing fossil fuel infrastructure, until it is retired, will be used more effectively and cheaply. While we would rather see a complete switch to renewable forms of energy, we can’t get there without efficient transmission capability, enabling electrification in places that need it most. So, please support and/or co-sponsor the Big Wires Act, a step forward to a better energy future. Thank you.
