An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Urge Restraint and Respect for Civil Liberties, Constitutional Rights

The President's actions outlined in the memorandum raise concerning issues regarding the separation of powers and potential overreach of executive authority. Deploying military forces to engage with protesters exercising their First Amendment rights is an extreme measure that risks inflaming tensions rather than deescalating them. There are legitimate questions about whether this falls within the proper scope of presidential powers or constitutes an abuse of those powers. A more prudent approach would be to emphasize de-escalation, facilitate peaceful protest, and address any violence through proper law enforcement channels while respecting constitutional rights. Involving the military in domestic affairs sets a troubling precedent that could further divide the nation at a time when unity and restraint are needed. I urge the Administration to reconsider this course of action and instead pursue lawful measures that uphold both security and civil liberties for all Americans.
