Keep ICE Out: Sign HB 182 Now

Now that House Bill 182 has passed the General Assembly, it is up to you to sign it into law. I ask you to sign HB 182 immediately and end 287(g) agreements in Delaware once and for all. Across the country, local law enforcement is being empowered to harass immigrant communities through ICE’s 287(g) program. However, studies have long shown that, rather than making communities safer, the program undermines public safety by reducing trust in local law enforcement and deterring immigrant families from coming forward as victims of crime or even asking for basic assistance. Delaware has long provided a home for immigrants and people seeking safety, but 287(g) agreements directly support the Trump administration’s plans to deport our immigrant neighbors and loved ones and instill fear in our communities. We cannot let up as threats to our civil liberties emerge. Please ensure Delaware joins states like New Jersey, Connecticut, and Illinois by banning 287(g) agreements.
