I am writing to you as a concerned constituent to express my support for the protesters in Iran and to urge you to back House Continuing Resolution 7.
In September 2022, Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian-Kurdish woman, was arrested by Iranian morality police for allegedly violating the country's mandatory hijab law. Following her arrest, she died under suspicious circumstances, sparking widespread protests across Iran, particularly led by women. These protests have become a significant movement for gender equality and against the repressive regime in Iran since the 1979 revolution.
The Iranian government's response has been brutally repressive, including public executions of young protesters. At least four men have been executed, and 15 more are currently sentenced to death, including teenagers.
While the United States has limited capacity to intervene directly, it is imperative that we raise our voices against such human rights violations. House Continuing Resolution 7, which has already passed the House, commends the bravery of these protesters and sends a strong message of support from our nation.
As my representative, I urge you to support this resolution and speak out against the human rights abuses perpetrated by the Iranian government. Your voice can significantly impact how the U.S. responds to such critical global issues.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this urgent matter. I look forward to your support for H. Con. Res. 7 and your vocal stance against these violations.
