Tax the wealthy and champion serious campaign finance reform before billionaire money makes elections irrelevant. Elon Musk just handed $158 million to a single Senate super PAC in one month, more than James Talarico's campaign raised from 1.3 million individual donors since it launched. That is not democracy. That is a purchase.
As Public Citizen's Lisa Gilbert put it, "The current state of our campaign finance system allows one billionaire to supply the overwhelming share of a major party's political funding. This is undemocratic and flat-out wrong." When one person can outspend over a million small donors combined, the voices of working people are drowned out entirely. The answer is a wealth tax that actually reduces the concentration of power at the top, paired with campaign finance rules that stop billionaires from buying seats in Congress.
America should not be a country where $158 million from one man can decide who represents millions of Texans. Champion the policies that close the wealth gap and restore the basic principle that every person gets one voice, not one per billion dollars.
