It seems very clear from arguments in SCOTUS today that the court will not only uphold Mississippi’s abortion law, but will strike down Roe at the earliest opportunity. Democrats’ rhetoric about “upholding Roe” is sounding increasingly hollow with this conservative majority on the court.
Senate Democrats need to recognize the urgency of the moment, get serious, end the filibuster, and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act. Even a wanted pregnancy can be dangerous for women. Lack of access to safe abortion care can be deadly. Women in Mississippi, Texas, and elsewhere are already in danger. Don’t wait for the court to decide one way or the other - how many women have to get hurt or even die in the meantime?
