Pentagon to Troops: Get Your Testosterone Checked or Else

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to immediately halt and defund Defense Secretary Hegseth's mandatory annual testosterone screening policy for active-duty service members ages 30 and older. The stated justification for this policy completely lacks merit. This is not a strategy born out of genuine medical need or strategic vulnerability; rather, it is an ideological vanity project that reduces complex military readiness to a superficial, hyper-masculinized caricature. This top-down mandate flies directly in the face of established clinical guidance: the American Urological Association and the Endocrine Society both explicitly advise against screening asymptomatic individuals, and the American College of Physicians has found that testosterone treatment shows little to no benefit for the very things this initiative claims to fix, including energy, vitality, physical function, and cognition. Testosterone levels are highly volatile and naturally drop due to standard military stressors like sleep deprivation and high operational tempos. Mandating tests on a healthy, asymptomatic population risks medicalizing normal physiological variance and pressuring troops toward hormone therapies that carry risks of blood clots, cardiovascular strain, and other harms, even though officials say treatment itself will remain optional. Furthermore, this policy fundamentally misunderstands the modern military structure. Roughly 80% to 90% of our armed forces occupy vital support, logistical, technical, and intelligence roles, not front-line combat positions. By the time service members reach age 30, they are overwhelmingly noncombatants leveraging technical expertise and institutional knowledge. Forcing a massive population of logistics and tech personnel into a fringe medical experiment under the empty guise of "battlefield lethality" is an overreach, an abuse of administrative authority, and a waste of taxpayer defense dollars. I urge you to exercise strict oversight, challenge the flawed logic behind this initiative, and block funding for this unscientific, top-down medical mandate.
