On June 30, the Delaware General Assembly passed House Bill 182. But, we still need you to sign it into law. I ask you to sign HB 182 immediately and end 287(g) agreements in Delaware once and for all.
Across the country, 287(g) agreements have tripled since 2017 to over 700 jurisdictions. These programs erode trust, criminalize immigrant families, and distract police from solving serious crimes. Studies have long shown that, rather than making communities safer, these agreements undermine public safety by leading to racial profiling and exposing communities to legal liability.
Delaware has long provided a home for immigrants and people seeking safety, but 287(g) agreements directly support the Trump administration’s plans to deport our immigrant neighbors and loved ones and instill fear in our communities. We cannot let up as threats to our civil liberties emerge.
Please ensure Delaware joins states like New Jersey, Connecticut, and Illinois by banning the broken, racist relic of the past that is 287(g) agreements. Sign HB 182 now and help end it in Delaware - for good.
