An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Protect marriage rights for disabled adults

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I’m writing in support of H.R. 5408 / S. 2767, the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act. The SSI program punishes disabled people who save more than $2,000 for individuals or $3,000 for couples, leaving us destitute in emergencies and unable to support ourselves or close the poverty gap. This discriminatory policy penalizes and prevents disabled adults from marriage equality and employment, forcing us to choose between healthcare access and our work and relationships. We WANT to work, we want to contribute - but the current restrictions endanger our access to healthcare if we marry who we love, or want to contribute to the economy.
