Please support the STANDUP Act in the Senate I’m contacting you as your constituent and a supporter of Sandy Hook Promise. I urge you to support the STANDUP Act, as it moves forward in the Senate. This bill, introduced by your colleagues Sen. Hassan and Sen. Ernst, has bipartisan support to prevent youth suicide and received unanimous consent in the House in 2020. Currently, suicide is the second-leading cause of death for young people aged 10-24 across the country. The pandemic has exacerbated this crisis, leading to an increase in mental health needs and suicidal ideation. As students begin returning to school in person, it’s critical that they receive the support they need to prevent tragedy and help their peers. The STANDUP Act would increase access to suicide prevention training for grades 6-12 within existing Project Aware grants. This bill can save lives and prevent tragedy – please support the STANDUP Act to protect our kids.
