Supreme Court: You Failed Our Transgender Service Members

I write today with deep disappointment over your ruling allowing the Trump administration’s ban on transgender military service to move forward. This decision is discriminatory, harmful, and a betrayal of the very values of fairness and equality that the Constitution is meant to protect.
Thousands of transgender Americans have served and continue to serve our country with honor, courage, and distinction. To now tell them they are unfit—not because of performance or conduct, but because of identity—is wrong. Reputable studies, including those by the RAND Corporation, have found no evidence that transgender service negatively affects military readiness or unit cohesion.
This ruling legitimizes exclusion based on fear, not facts. It not only harms individuals who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, but also weakens the integrity of the institutions meant to protect all Americans equally. Our armed forces should reflect the values of the nation they serve—including equality, dignity, and respect for every citizen.
I urge the Court to re-examine this issue with the seriousness and humanity it deserves. History will remember how you responded to this moment. Please act to make it right.
