An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress; State Governors & Legislatures

Tesla Vandalism = “Domestic Terrorism,” School Shootings = Shrug

In 2025, the Trump administration has made one thing clear: protecting Tesla and Elon Musk is more important than protecting children from gun violence. Their swift, aggressive response to Tesla vandalism starkly contrasts with their refusal to address mass shootings in schools. Tesla Vandalism = “Domestic Terrorism,” School Shootings = Shrug When Tesla dealerships were vandalized, Trump labeled the incidents “domestic terrorism.” Attorney General Pam Bondi launched investigations, warning perpetrators could face 20 years in prison. The government acted immediately to protect Tesla’s property. Meanwhile, schools remain vulnerable to gun violence. Rather than strengthen gun laws, the administration is rolling them back under the guise of protecting the Second Amendment. Making Schools Less Safe Instead of addressing mass shootings, Trump and Bondi have made guns more accessible through Project 2025 by: • Weakening ATF regulations, making it harder to track illegal firearm sales. • Opposing red flag laws, allowing dangerous individuals to keep their guns. • Expanding access to high-capacity magazines, commonly used in school shootings. These changes make it easier for shooters to access deadly weapons, putting children at greater risk while prioritizing gun industry profits. Arming Teachers Instead of Preventing Shootings Rather than enacting gun reforms, Trump’s main response to school shootings is arming teachers—despite overwhelming evidence that: • Armed teachers don’t stop mass shooters. • More guns in schools increase accidental shootings. • Police may mistake armed teachers for active shooters. This shifts responsibility from the government to educators, forcing teachers to act as security guards instead of preventing violence before it happens. A Government That Protects Tesla, Not Children The contrast is undeniable. The administration mobilized federal forces to protect Tesla while gutting protections for schoolchildren. They prioritize corporate interests over public safety. If Trump treated school shootings the way he treated Tesla vandalism, children wouldn’t have to live in fear. Instead, his policies make future tragedies more likely. The message is clear: businesses matter more than kids.
