I recently read on datacenters(dot)com that there are 23 data centers in Las Vegas.
I have read multiple reports online that data centers need massive amounts of water to cool servers and that many centers tap into municipal water supplies.
It is my understanding that 'on February 20, 2025, the Nevada State Legislature introduced Assembly Bill 226 (AB226), aimed at regulating the establishment and expansion of data centers within the state. The bill seeks to address the growing demand for data storage and processing facilities while ensuring that these developments contribute positively to local communities.'
If I read correctly on NELIS, on Jun 10, 2025, Governor Lombardo vetoed the bill.
I think regulation of data centers is critical considering Nevada consistently struggles with water supplies and there needs to be educated mindfulness of the potential impact on residents. Please publicly address this topic and support any bill that would help conserve our precious water supply and protect our neighborhoods.
Thank you.
