The historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC) in 2021 significantly reduced child poverty. However, its expiration, influenced by corporate lobbying, led to a surge in child poverty in 2022. The proposed modest expansion of the CTC, primarily benefiting larger, low-income families, is supported by some corporate lobbying organizations due to included corporate tax breaks. This raises concerns as it benefits profitable companies that already pay minimal taxes. It is crucial to prioritize working families over corporate interests. Therefore, it is requested to support policies that increase taxes on corporations and reconsider the tax-exempt status of churches. This could generate additional revenue to fund a more substantial and permanent expansion of the CTC, thereby reducing child poverty. This approach aligns with the principle of prioritizing people over profits.
