An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend the Rule of Law

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to demand, again, that you do all in your Congressional power to bring Kilmar Abrego-Garcia home. Trump’s own DoJ has admitted that Abrego-Garcia was wrongfully deported. Yet he remains in a prison in El Salvador. What are you doing about this? In refusing to return the man it wrongfully deported, the Trump administration is in direct violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling. This is a constitutional crisis, and a national emergency. This nation is built on the rule of law. Once upon a time we believed that no one, not even the President, was above the law. We believed that the Supreme Court was the final authority and that, agree with them or not, its decisions were law. Yet Trump is brazenly violating those beliefs. What Trump is doing is utterly antithetical to this nation’s foundational principles. If he gets away with this, there will be no law and no one will be safe. Congress, that body you ran so hard to be a part of, will be nothing but a doormat for him to wipe his feet on. Trump is not a king. The law is supreme, or should be. It’s time for you to act. Bring Abrego-Garcia home. Bring all the people illegally deported to that torture house in El Salvador home. Return the rule of law to this country. Do your damn job and protect the Constitution you swore an oath to defend!
