I’m reaching out because I’m concerned about the appointment of Trump’s personal attorney and friends as executives in the Library of Congress. This isn’t just any library—it’s the largest in the world and a key resource for Congress, researchers, and historians. It holds millions of books, maps, manuscripts, and recordings, all carefully preserved to keep knowledge accessible for generations. The people leading this institution should have expertise in library science, archives, and research—not political connections. Unfortunately, Trump and his office have made statements that show they don’t understand the Library of Congress’s role. It’s not a children’s library where kids check out books, and it doesn’t curate collections to push personal agendas. It exists to serve as an unbiased repository of knowledge. Putting unqualified people in charge threatens the integrity of this important institution and future use of vital services.
Please take action to keep politics out of the Library of Congress:
- Demand a review to make sure executive appointments meet professional library standards.
- Support legislation to keep library and archive leadership free from political interference.
- Speak out publicly against appointments based on political loyalty instead of expertise.
I hope you’ll stand up for the integrity of the Library of Congress. Thanks for your time, and I appreciate your leadership on this.
