The U.S. Veto of a Another Ceasefire Resolution Is a Stain on Our History

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with the United States’ decision to veto yet another ceasefire resolution at the United Nations Security Council, a move made in a shameful 14-to-1 vote. This decision not only isolates us from the global consensus but also reinforces our image as an arrogant nation on the world stage, unwavering in its support for an apartheid and genocidal regime. It is a stain on our history that will not be forgotten. While AIPAC’s influence and the Biden administration’s pressure have undoubtedly shaped policy, it is notable that 19 senators voted their consciences in an unprecedented effort to hold the United States accountable for violations of both U.S. and international law. Their courage stands in stark contrast to this administration’s complicity in war crimes. The world is watching as Israel, now a pariah state in the eyes of much of the globe, continues to commit atrocities with impunity. The evidence of these crimes is overwhelming, and yet our government enables them with weapons and diplomatic cover. History will remember those who stood for justice and those who chose to defend genocide. You now face a choice: to align yourself with the perpetrators of these horrors or to stand on the side of morality and human dignity. Do better. End military aid to Israel, support a ceasefire, and demand accountability for war crimes. These are the only ways to truly save lives across the region, including those of the hostages and political prisoners that Israel and the US has abandoned to an ominous unknown fate. The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. Ensure that you are remembered as one who helped bend it in the right direction.
