I’m writing this letter to state and federal officials because most of the Republicans in the federal government seem to have forgotten their oath. I hope you will see the collective actions below; consider the health and safety of your friends and your family and that you’ll find a way to make your, their, and our voices heard. The cancellation of over $700 million in funding for Moderna’s bird flu vaccine development, despite promising interim trial results, undermines our nation’s preparedness for potential pandemics. This decision, coupled with the removal of COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for healthy children and pregnant women without consulting the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, raises serious questions about the commitment to evidence-based public health policies. Furthermore, Secretary Kennedy’s threats to bar NIH scientists from publishing in esteemed medical journals like NEJM, JAMA, and The Lancet erode the integrity of scientific research and hinder the dissemination of critical health information. His history of spreading vaccine misinformation, including debunked claims linking vaccines to autism, has been widely criticized by public health experts and even members of his own family. These actions are not just administrative decisions; they have real-world consequences that jeopardize the health of our communities. We must hold Secretary Kennedy accountable and consider his removal from office to restore trust and integrity in our public health institutions.
