My Heart Is Breaking

My heart is breaking. For all our nation's talk of courage and strength and honor, we work distressingly harder to force anyone in need to prove their worth. To demonstrate that they have earned the love of our country, and the right to dignity and respect. Our help isn't defined by their need, but by our convenience. By the shifting and short-sighted boundaries of our greed and self-righteousness. This is the America I know, but not the America we could be. And not the America the world, and our citizens, needs.
