An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect voter rights

The SAVE Act poses a grave threat to voting rights and access for all Americans, including women. Requiring burdensome documentary proof of citizenship for every voter registration application or re-registration would disfranchise millions who lack ready access to documents like passports or birth certificates. This especially impacts married women who have changed their names. Survey data shows over 21 million citizens lack these documents, and stringent documentary requirements in other states have blocked tens of thousands from the voter rolls. The SAVE Act would functionally eliminate popular methods like mail-in, online, and automatic voter registration by mandating in-person documentary proof. It explicitly criminalizes officials registering voters without documents, leaving no meaningful failsafe. This draconian proposal strikes at the heart of free and fair elections by erecting unconstitutional barriers to the ballot box. We urge you to protect equal voting rights for all Americans, including women, by rejecting this un-American voter suppression act that undermines our democracy.
