An open letter to the President

We The People Choose, Not You: Why Trump’s Admin Fails the 1776 Test

When the Founders wrote the Declaration of Independence, they explicitly condemned King George III for overriding local governance, "suspending our own Legislatures," and declaring total power over the colonies "in all cases whatsoever." Your administration is trying to run that exact same royal playbook against American voters. What we are witnessing is not a series of isolated policies, but a systematic campaign of executive usurpation designed to strip state legislatures and Congress of their constitutional authority. Through a relentless pattern of presidential decrees, threats to withhold federal funding, pressure on independent agencies like the Postal Service, and aggressive litigation against state election officials, your administration is attempting to consolidate centralized control over how Americans vote. - King Rule #1: Bypass the People's Representatives. The Constitution's Elections Clause explicitly grants the authority to govern elections to state legislatures and Congress—not the President. Federal courts have repeatedly stepped in to halt these unconstitutional power grabs, issuing injunctions to block executive efforts to commandeer federal agencies and restrict mail-in ballots. King Rule #2: Disenfranchise Legitimate Citizens. Forcing states to adhere to top-down federal dictates and rely on inaccurate government databases creates a bureaucratic nightmare that risks purging eligible voters. The people most hurt by this federal interference are military service members deployed overseas, elderly voters, and newly naturalized citizens. King Rule #3: Undermine Public Trust through Repetition. Reissuing sweeping decrees and filing meritless lawsuits—despite courts repeatedly confirming key provisions are void—is not about securing elections. It is an intentional attempt to wear down constitutional guardrails and normalize executive control over democratic processes. America is a constitutional republic, not a monarchy. To defend free and fair elections, I demand that you: 1. Rescind all executive orders and decrees that attempt to federalize election administration or override state voting laws. 2. Halt all federal coercion and litigation targeting state election officials, including threats to withhold state funding or interfere with mail-in ballot delivery. 3. Respect the Elections Clause of the Constitution, leaving election administration strictly to state legislatures and Congress where the law mandates it. In the United States, voters choose their leaders—leaders do not get to dictate how or if voters cast their ballots. Nobody is above the law, especially not the President.
