SUPPORT Rep. Massie's War Powers Resolution to stop Iran military actions

I urge you to support H. Con. Res. 38, the bipartisan War Powers Resolution introduced by Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY), which would direct the President to terminate unauthorized hostilities against Iran without explicit Congressional authorization. The Constitution is unambiguous on this point: Article I, Section 8 grants Congress alone the power to declare war. With reports indicating a 90% likelihood of imminent U.S. strikes against Iran, and the administration having already deployed two aircraft carriers, a dozen warships, and hundreds of fighter jets to the region, Congress faces a defining moment. Iran is a nation of 90 million people with substantial air defenses and military capabilities, and with 30,000 to 40,000 American troops already in the region, the potential for catastrophic escalation and retaliation against our own service members is not theoretical. This resolution does not prevent diplomatic engagement or intelligence cooperation with our allies; it simply reasserts what the Constitution already requires. Passing it would put every member of Congress on record before American lives are committed to another open-ended conflict in the Middle East. The American people overwhelmingly oppose a war with Iran, and the lessons of Iraq demand that we not allow the same institutional failures to repeat themselves. I respectfully but firmly ask that you vote in favor of H. Con. Res. 38, support a companion Senate measure if one is brought to the floor, and ensure that the gravest decision a government can make, sending its citizens to war, belongs to the branch the Founders entrusted with that authority.
