ICE Agents Are Not Police & Should Not Be Masked

ICE is a federal immigration agency, not police, yet its agents increasingly wear uniforms labeled “POLICE,” creating dangerous confusion. Law enforcement experts and city officials have warned that this undermines trust in local departments and discourages victims and witnesses from cooperating with real police. The FBI has also reported a rise in criminals impersonating ICE agents, using the lack of clear identification to commit robberies and kidnappings—prompting formal calls for ICE to clearly identify itself during operations. Congress must act now to prohibit misleading uniforms and require visible federal ID to protect public safety and restore trust in law enforcement.
