Missouri shouldn't hunt people for sport

The proposed legislation to place a $1,000 bounty on tips leading to the arrest of undocumented immigrants and impose life sentences for being undocumented is an extreme, inhumane response that would foster fear and division in our communities. It disregards the substantial economic contributions of undocumented immigrants, who paid $113 million in state taxes in 2022 and support 160,000 jobs and $19 billion in economic activity that benefits all Missourians. This draconian approach goes against our values of human dignity and would turn neighbors against each other based on racial profiling and discrimination. It represents an escalation of oppression against a vulnerable population that is already living in a climate of fear. Rather than cruel punishment for their existence, we should pursue humane, commonsense immigration policies that respect human rights while enhancing security through proper screening and background checks. Promoting hatred and vigilantism will only breed more injustice.
