Demand Feenstra Correct His Gas Price Claim

I am writing as your constituent to ask you to hold Rep. Randy Feenstra publicly accountable for spreading misleading information about Iowa gas prices — and to set a clear standard for honesty that all of our elected officials should be expected to meet. At a recent rally, figures tied to Feenstra's political circle claimed Iowa gas was selling at $1.85 per gallon. AAA of Iowa has confirmed on the record that this figure refers to E-85 ethanol fuel — a specialty blend that most cars cannot use and that can damage engines not built for it. Regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa has averaged between $2.36 and $2.59 per gallon in 2026, according to AAA and GasBuddy surveys of more than 2,000 stations statewide. That is a difference of more than 65 cents per gallon. This is not a small error. When a sitting congressman allows false price figures to circulate without correction — especially during a campaign — it misleads Iowa families about the true state of their finances. It also damages the credibility of every elected official in this state, regardless of party. Iowa has always held its leaders to a higher standard. We expect our representatives to deal in facts, even when the truth is less convenient than a talking point. I am asking you to publicly call on Rep. Feenstra to correct the record and tell Iowans the truth about what gas actually costs. Setting that standard now matters — not just for one misleading claim, but for the health of honest public life in Iowa.
