An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Republicans Letting Children Starve as Leverage- Release SNAP Funds Now

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

A judge has ordered the release of emergency funds to protect SNAP during this unnecessary government shutdown, and Congress needs to enforce it. 42 million Americans are at risk of going hungry, 19 million of which are children. Speaker Johnson openly stated SNAP is being withheld as leverage against the Democrats, which is a vile, evil, loathsome thing to say, and as a member of his party you should be ashamed to be associated with such a statement. Allowing 19 million American children to go hungry as a political negotiation tactic is not something good people do. Do you want to be on the side of evil? This is not what being Republican used to mean, yet by allowing this tactic to be used even in the face of a judge's orders you are complicit in turning this party into one that is willing to cross any line and abuse any loophole, however villainous, in the avaricious pursuit of power. How dare Congress let children go hungry to sway a vote. How dare you. Release the SNAP funds, and let the children eat.
