An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Halt dismantling of USAID, defend Congressional oversight

23 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am dismayed that you as my representatives in Congress have made no pushback against the Trump administration's extraordinary actions to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development. The administration has fired or placed over 5,600 USAID employees on leave without Congressional approval, leaving only a small fraction on the job. It is eliminating over 90% of USAID's foreign aid contracts worth $60 billion in U.S. assistance programs around the world. These drastic moves undermine the Constitutional separation of powers, as Congress authorized USAID's creation and funding - yet as the minority party you have done nothing to assert Congress's authority. I urge immediate legislative action to halt the administration's unilateral efforts until proper oversight and procedures involving Congress are followed. Unchecked executive overreach today jeopardizes Congress's power over the federal workforce in the future.
