Recognize RSF Genocide in Sudan and Support Arms Embargo Against UAE

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action regarding the ongoing genocide in Sudan and the United Arab Emirates' role in funding these atrocities. The situation demands congressional attention and decisive measures to hold perpetrators accountable. Since April 2023, Sudan's civil war has resulted in over 150,000 deaths and displaced 12 million people. The Rapid Support Forces have systematically targeted civilians, culminating in the fall of el-Fasher in late October, the last major city in southwest Sudan to resist their control. Both the United Nations and the Biden administration have recognized these actions as genocide, yet the international response remains insufficient. Evidence indicates that the UAE has been funding the RSF and conducting drone strikes in Sudan, despite their denials. Sudan's government has filed a case against the UAE in the International Court of Justice based on these allegations. While the US has sanctioned leaders of both the RSF and Sudan's army for war crimes, these measures alone cannot stop the violence or address the source of RSF's military capability. I am asking you to take three specific actions. First, publicly recognize the atrocities committed by the RSF as genocide, adding your voice to the growing international consensus. Second, support the official designation of the RSF as a terrorist organization, which would provide additional legal tools to combat their operations and funding networks. Third, call for an immediate arms embargo against the UAE to cut off the supply chain enabling these war crimes. The people of Sudan cannot wait for incremental diplomatic efforts while genocide continues. Congressional leadership is essential to pressure the administration toward stronger action and to demonstrate that the United States will not tolerate state sponsorship of mass atrocities. I urge you to speak out forcefully on this crisis and use your position to advance these three critical measures.
