An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Take a Stand on Gun Violence Now

11 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am your constituent and I want you to know that on October 8, 2023, the American College of Emergency Physicians officially joined the ranks of several other medical organizations, including the American Medical Association as well as the American Public Health Association, in declaring gun violence a public health crisis in the U.S. I also just found out that Congress made it illegal to collect gun violence statistics in the 1990s at the behest of the NRA. We need that data to know exactly what kind of legislation will help reduce the plague of gun deaths we have in the US. I want you to enact legislation that restores the government’s right to collect gun violence data so we develop regulations that will help keep all of us safe. I also want you to support legislation that makes a background check a legal requirement prior to any gun transfer, in a store, at a show, or privately. While I have your attention pass Ethan’s Law so that guns are stored safely when children are around, after all 13 die every day from a gun. And pass an assault weapons ban. No one needs to shoot with 60 rounds a minute three times faster than a handgun. Thank you.
