The Law Isn’t Optional: Enforce the War Powers Act

121 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!

We are a nation of laws. That means the administration doesn't get to pick and choose which ones to follow. Today, May 1, is the legal deadline for the war in Iran. Under the War Powers Resolution, the 60-day clock has run out. This means the President is legally required to either get formal approval from Congress or start withdrawing our troops immediately. Instead of following the law, the White House is claiming the war is "over" while still maintaining a naval blockade. You cannot have it both ways. A blockade is an act of war. Keeping troops deployed without a vote from Congress is a direct violation of federal law.  This isn't a tactical disagreement—it is a documented end-run around the Constitution. If the administration can simply redefine the word "hostilities" to avoid a deadline, then the law has no meaning. I am demanding that you do your job and protect our constitutional checks and balances: 1. Reject the claim that hostilities have ended while the blockade continues. 2. Demand a vote immediately. Either authorize this action or bring the troops home. 3. Hold the Executive branch accountable to the 60-day limit set by law. The law is clear. I expect you to uphold it.
