Dear Mr President, I am writing you today to urge you to grant clemency to Leonard Peltier. Your words in your son's pardon are part of the message to free Leonard Peltier for generations, and I urge you to use your power to free Leonard also. In the words of Senator. Daniel K. Inouye (D-HI) in a 60 Minutes Interview from September 22, 1991, “I think if you add up all the evidence, and if all the truth came out that the affidavits were fabricated, that the ballistic information will show that this gun was not in any way involved - I think a reasonable jury would have found him not guilty." So too you said of your son, “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out". And further you said, “There has been an effort to break Hunter – who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.” Leonard’s imprisonment in a maximum security facility has been an effort to “break” him, his continued imprisonment is a horrific act of injustice. Just as your son’s prosecution was politically motivated, so was Leonard Peltier's, and you sir have the power to correct this injustice. Please grant Leonard Peltier clemency now.
