SB12 = Trump-Style Rhetoric in Texas Schools. End It Now!

I am writing to express my deep concern over Senate Bill 12, which bans diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in Texas public K–12 schools. This legislation undermines our state’s commitment to inclusive education and directly threatens the well-being of marginalized communities.
By prohibiting discussions of race, gender identity, and sexual orientation, SB 12 censors vital aspects of students’ identities and experiences. The ACLU of Texas has rightly criticized this bill for punishing students for who they are and fostering a hostile environment that damages mental health and undermines academic achievement.
I am ashamed of this divisive and regressive legislation. Education should be a force for unity and empowerment—not exclusion. That’s Donald Trump’s agenda, and I’m disappointed to see Texas lawmakers following in his footsteps.
I urge you to repeal SB 12 and instead support policies that reflect the diversity of our schools and prepare students for the real world. Do not let Texas be remembered for standing on the wrong side of history.
