An open letter to the U.S. Congress

The One Big Beautiful Bill of 2025

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I’m writing to express my fierce opposition to HR 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill of 2025. While the House of Representatives may have already passed it, the Senate must not pass this bill. Medicaid cuts alone will take away healthcare from nearly 2x Holocaust victims worth of Americans. In every state, less than 12% of Americans support Medicaid cuts. In North Carolina specifically, fewer than 8% of constituents support the cuts. This will impact millions of people who now face life or death consequences, as well as their loved ones who will be forced to watch them die, and you will be to blame. If you want to end your career in politics and radicalize millions of people against you, congratulations. Medicaid and Medicare, on average, provide at least a third of most hospital income. These cuts will cause the collapse of our entire medical system, including the closing of rural hospitals, doctors and family practices, and countless other medical or therapeutic providers. Are you ready to be accountable for the millions of people, even with work-subsidized medical insurance, to suffer and die because they no longer have hospitals, specialists, or other resources available to them anymore? The 1,038 page bill is bloated with plenty of provisions that hurt constituents and the rule of law: 1) Blocking funding to enforce contempt of court orders, effectively crippling the entire Judicial branch’s power and ability to uphold decisions. 2) Subsidies for private school vouchers after you helped end the Department of Education and funding for public schools. 3) Limiting Medicaid to disabled people who are unable to work - this is just eugenics. 4) Extending SNAP work requirements, moving the needle from age 55 up to 65, and requiring CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS 8 YEARS OLD to work outside of the home. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Child labor? Really? 5) Preventing regulating AI for the next 10 years, which will impact our economy and every worker in America, copyright laws, and only benefit AI businesses. Law works best when it can adapt to the needs of the people, and kneecapping our ability to respond to the needs of the people or the market is asinine. 6) Last but not least, this adds TRILLIONS of dollars to the deficit. Overall Deficit Increase: The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the bill, as passed by the House, would increase the federal budget deficit by $2.4 trillion over 10 years (2025-2034) before accounting for interest costs. Total Debt Impact: Including the associated interest costs on the higher debt, the CBO estimates the bill would add $3.0 trillion to the debt over that same period. Impact of Permanent Provisions: If the temporary provisions in the bill are made permanent without being offset by other spending cuts or revenue increases, the total debt impact, including interest, could reach $5.0 trillion.
