America was embarrassed on the world stage when a Putin fanboy was sent to do the work of an American president. We the people saw it. The world saw it.
In the phone call to Zelenskyy and European leaders after the Alaska summit Trump embraced Putin’s view of the conflict. And that Putin does not want a ceasefire.
Trump abandoned his own demand for a ceasefire, adopting Putin’s position that negotiations should take place without one. Zelensky insists on a ceasefire before negotiations.
After the call, Trump posted on social media that “it was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up.”
“All” means Putin. And Trump.
Questions…
Why did the summit end so abruptly? Why was a planned luncheon, and more discussions, cancelled? And why did Trump immediately tell Hannity on Fox, “Because of what happened today, I think I don’t have to think about [further sanctions on Russia] now. I may have to think about it in two weeks or three weeks or something, but we don’t have to think about that right now.”?
Was it just all too much for the president to mentally and physically handle?
At the press conference following the summit, NBC WH correspondent Peter Alexander reported that what struck him was “the looks on the faces of a lot of the American delegation here. Karoline Leavitt…, Steve Witkoff, who came into the room, then left quickly, then came back in. Leavitt appeared to be a bit stressed out, anxious. Their eyes were wide, almost ashen at times.”
Marco Rubio on Face the Nation was asked whether Donald Trump had won anything during the meeting with Putin. His reply shows he’s as confused as the rest of us.
“Well, I think there are a couple—I mean, there were not enough for Ukraine, if not we would be announcing a peace deal this morning—but certainly there are some things we noticed, changes. There are some changes that I think are possible. I think there’s some concepts discussed that could potentially lead to something.”
But Trump already has his plan for today’s WH meeting. Via a Sunday Truth Social post…
“President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!”
Oh. And his summit with Putin brought another good plan, just not about Ukraine.
Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order to eliminate mail-in voting and voting machines before the 2026 midterms, after Putin told him US elections were rigged because of postal ballots.
