I am concerned about the budget that recently passed the House. The way I understand it, it now has to pass the Senate. I have heard the GOP has been saying they won’t cut Medicaid.
But my question is since the GOP budget requires the Energy and Commerce Committee to cut $880 billion. I want to know where exactly that $880 billion will come from if not from Medicaid. The NYT states, even if the committee cuts everything that’s not healthcare to $0 it will still be more than $600 billion short. Thus Republicans would have to cut Medicare and Medicaid to get to the $880 billion. Are you just hoping we are clueless and won’t be cognizant of what’s going on?
I think it would be egregious if you cut Medicaid. It is going to harm many, many people in the state of Texas. It will hurt seniors who live in nursing homes. What will those nursing homes do, turn those people out on their ear? It will affect children receiving healthcare through Medicaid. What will happen to those kids? Thinking that the states are going to pick up where the feds are cutting is ludicrous in Texas. Texas isn’t going to cover those kids. Or what about people with long-term health issues like diabetes, kidney failure, cancer, mental disorders. All of them are going to suffer a many will probably die when Medicaid is cut. And rural healthcare and rural hospitals are at risk of closing. Many people in Texas, who are Republicans and have severe health problems or have kiddos that need health coverage or have elderly people in their families are all going to be in dire straits with this budget. This is unacceptable. Low income people, the elderly, children, people with major illnesses, cannot just be booted off their healthcare coverage. We can’t afford to have any more rural hospitals closed because of mismanagement at the federal level. Especially in light of Texas’ long history of not picking up where the federal government ends.
Please be cognizant of the effect of these cuts! Please think of the Texans who will suffer needlessly because of cuts so that you can give a nice little tax cut to the billionaires.
