Urgent: Implement the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement in Tigray

I am writing to urge my representatives to take immediate action regarding the implementation of the 2022 Pretoria Peace Agreement in Ethiopia. This Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, signed to bring peace to Tigray, mandates the withdrawal of all foreign and non-ENDF forces, guarantees the free flow of humanitarian aid, and calls for accountability for human rights abuses and war crimes. Despite these commitments, the situation on the ground remains dire for the Tigrayan people. However, little progress has been made in ending the atrocities against Tigrayans or in alleviating the humanitarian crisis they face. It is imperative that the United States Government takes a firm stance in ensuring Ethiopia's compliance with this agreement. Therefore, I urge my representative to: 1. Pressure Ethiopia to fully implement the Pretoria Peace Agreement without delay. 2. Request the State Department to conduct an independent investigation and provide a comprehensive report on Ethiopia's progress in fulfilling its commitments under the agreement. 3. Advocate for increased USAID funding to support humanitarian efforts addressing the Tigray genocide and its aftermath. The United States has a critical role to play in promoting peace, accountability, and humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia. I implore you to prioritize this issue and take decisive action to ensure that Ethiopia honors its commitments under international law. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
