Emil Bove’s Corruption and Abuse of Power Disqualify Him as a Federal Judge

In his short time at the Department of Justice, Emil Bove wracked up a stunning record of abuse of power and corruption on Donald Trump’s behalf. Most notoriously, he ordered federal prosecutors to drop charges against the mayor of New York City after the mayor’s lawyers promised Trump political favors. Seven different professional prosecutors resigned in protest rather than dismiss the case and take part in this quid pro quo. A federal judge suggested Bove had violated “the basic promise of equal justice under the law.” He also led the purge of career officials at the Department and at the FBI and attempted to investigate thousands of agents for doing their jobs and enforcing the law against insurrectionists. His dirty deals and undermining of law enforcement independence should have gotten him fired. Instead, Trump has nominated Bove for a seat on a federal appeals court, like an old-time machine politician rewarding one of his cronies with a sweet gig for services rendered. There is no way he can be trusted to be a fair and honest judge, to be impartial and objective and put the law first. If this is what he’s done at the Justice Department, it’s hard to imagine what Bove might try to get away with a lifetime appointment. Please vote no on this crooked and dangerous political flunky.
