Save Democracy: Get Corporate Money Out of Politics

I am writing to urge you to take decisive action to protect the integrity of our democratic system by removing corporate money from politics and repealing the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. The 2010 ruling has opened the floodgates for unlimited corporate spending, allowing a handful of wealthy entities to wield disproportionate influence over elections, policy making, and public discourse. This reality erodes public trust, silences ordinary citizens, and skews legislation toward the interests of powerful donors rather than the common good. A truly representative government must ensure that every voter’s voice carries equal weight. To achieve this, I propose the following steps: (1) enact legislation that requires full transparency for all political expenditures, making it clear when corporations or their affiliates are contributing; (2) establish a public financing system that provides candidates with sufficient resources to run competitive campaigns without relying on private corporate funds; and (3) pass a constitutional amendment that overturns Citizens United, reaffirming that corporate entities are not persons for the purposes of political spending. By taking these actions, Congress will reaffirm the principle that government exists to serve the people—not the pockets of corporations.
