An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress; State Governors & Legislatures
Urgent: Just How Far Will We Let Trump Go? We Can Defend Our Democracy
34 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen who believes in democracy, constitutional governance, and the rule of law. Since taking office, President Trump has demonstrated a blatant disregard for constitutional norms, threatening the balance of power, overriding acts of Congress, and attempting to strip birthright citizenship in direct violation of the Fourteenth Amendment. His actions undermine our institutions, our democracy, and the very foundation of the United States. I urge you to take a stand—whether as a governor, legislator, or elected official—before the damage is irreversible.
Trump’s own words make his intentions clear. He has openly stated his desire to “rule as a dictator on day one” and has worked to consolidate power in the executive branch at the expense of the legislative and judicial branches. His administration has targeted the press, disregarded court rulings, and sought to weaken federal agencies that provide critical oversight. This is not about partisanship; it is about preserving the core principles of our democracy. Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity.
How far will we let this go? Will we allow one man to dismantle the institutions that protect our freedoms? The answer should be clear. I urge you to publicly and unequivocally defend the Constitution, reject any unconstitutional overreach, and take action to hold this administration accountable. Our nation was built on checks and balances, truth, and common sense—now is the time to prove that those values still matter.
