An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Trump uses mail-in ballots he (incorrectly) calls fraud.

For years, Trump has repeatedly warned about one thing that supposedly threatens the integrity of American elections: Mail-in ballots. Ever since he lost in 2020, that was all he could talk about: mail-in ballots, and how allegedly fraudulent they are. So what did the President do last week? He voted by mail. For the second time this year. The very thing he says is destroying our democracy, he uses himself without a second thought. And why did he vote by mail? Well, it’s pretty simple. He’s a Florida voter who lives and works in Washington, and mailing a ballot is easier than flying home. That’s it. That’s the same reason a soldier overseas votes by mail, or a nurse working a double shift, or a parent who can’t stand in line for three hours on a Tuesday. But Trump wants to keep that convenience for himself, and take it away from us. He trusts mail-in voting with his own ballot, so it was never about fraud. His only goal is making it harder for our voices to be heard.
