Stop holding fire victims hostage!, pass supplemental relief for California!

I am writing to urge you to support immediate supplemental relief funding for California without the cruel, partisan conditions that have been attached to emergency aid. It is deeply troubling that disaster relief—something that should be a given in times of crisis—is now being held hostage to unrelated policy demands. When did it become acceptable to condition lifesaving assistance on political bargaining?
This is not the America I believe in. When people are in need—whether from wildfires, floods, or other disasters—we do not debate whether they are deserving of help. We do not use their suffering as leverage. And we certainly do not play partisan games at their expense. How is this kind? How is this supportive of our fellow citizens?
California has long been a pillar of this nation’s economy, innovation, and resilience. Yet, time and time again, federal relief for the state is treated as some sort of optional favor rather than the basic duty of government to its people. What did California ever do to deserve this kind of treatment? This is not about politics—it’s about doing what’s right.
I am asking you—and your colleagues—to stop delaying and pass this funding now. Enough with the political maneuvering. Stand up, not just to question policy initiatives, but to stand up for what is right. The people of California, like any other Americans facing hardship, should not have to beg for help.
