Fund Texas Public Schools — Invest in Our Children’s Future

I am writing to demand that you prioritize and strengthen public education in Texas and ensure that every child — no matter their zip code — has access to a high-quality education. The future of our state and nation depends on it. Right now, Texas — like much of the United States — is falling behind other developed countries in educational outcomes. According to the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), American students rank below the global average in math and only average in reading and science. Nations such as Finland, Singapore, South Korea, and Canada outperform us not because their children are more capable, but because their governments invest in teachers, equitable funding, and modern public schools. Texas should lead the nation in education, yet chronic underfunding, overcrowded classrooms, outdated materials, and low teacher pay are robbing countless children of opportunity. A child’s access to quality education should never depend on the property wealth of their local district or the size of their parents’ paycheck. Our teachers are the backbone of Texas education. They are underpaid, overworked, and too often forced to spend their own money on classroom supplies. We cannot expect excellence in education while treating educators as expendable. Competitive pay, strong benefits, and professional respect must become the standard — not the exception. I urge you to take the following actions immediately: 1. Fully fund Texas public schools so every student — rural, suburban, and urban — has the resources to succeed. 2. Protect and strengthen the Texas Education Agency and resist efforts to divert public funds into private or voucher programs that undermine public schools. 3. Raise teacher pay statewide and invest in professional development to attract and retain the best educators. 4. Modernize school facilities and technology to prepare students for the demands of a 21st-century economy. Education is the foundation of democracy and the engine of innovation. If we continue to neglect it, we endanger Texas’s economy, competitiveness, and future workforce. It’s time for you to stand up for Texas children — not with slogans or empty promises, but with real investment and bold leadership. Fund our schools. Pay our teachers. Protect our future.
