Victims of Domestic Violence Need You to Protect Medicaid and SNAP

I’m writing to urge you to reject cuts to funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as you work on amending the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” which has already been passed by the House. These programs are vital to the safety, health, and recovery of millions of victims and of domestic violence and their families.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this proposal could result in up to 15.7 million people losing health coverage over the next ten years. If this bill advances in the Senate with additional changes and cuts to these programs, it would have catastrophic effects for women and children who have experienced abuse and rely on these programs as they seek safety and life-saving food and care which help them get back on their feet and remain productive community members.
For many victims, Medicaid is the only way they can access needed health care, mental health services, or essential medical treatment after escaping violence. SNAP is often the only means they have to put food on the table for themselves and their children. These aren’t just safety net programs, they are lifelines. Victims and survivors of domestic violence should not be forced to choose between safety and survival.
I strongly urge you to oppose any reconciliation package or legislation that cuts funding for Medicaid, SNAP, or other critical human needs programs. Our communities are stronger and safer when victims and survivors have access to the healthcare, food, and support they need to heal and thrive.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
